In the rural town of Scarlet Oak, Tom Istomin learns that a nearby dog shelter is the cause of decline in his own business. In an attempt to reverse the decline in his business activity, he decides to sabotage the shelter. In doing so, Tom stumbles into his worst nightmare that paradoxically leads to his personal redemption. The clandestine environment exposes Tom to an array of both tortured souls and surreal experiences.

Like Tom, a disturbed Peggy is on a mission to redeem herself. She seeks approval from where it was lost and is driven to win that approval back. In the wake of her path she leaves death, suffering and altered fortunes.
